Re-Up

I’m sure some of you may have noticed that things haven’t exactly been popping off on derivedthread.com over the last couple of months. For all of us, there has been a lot of transitions in our personal lives, real events and responsibilities to tend to and enjoy. I think that for myself, I needed to just let things settle so I could make sense of my place in this city of ours and just what I would share, how and why. So, I’ll catch you up on the snap shots from the past couple of months.  Derived Thread has always been about sharing our stories and as nice as it is to keep things private, there are people, places and experiences that we are committed to sharing with you all. Last year, Marcus Troy started a digital campaign with Nike entitled “The Mavericks Project”. People were invited to contribute a story about what made them a “Maverick” to the micro-site he had created alongside Nike.  I had been inspired to write my own entry after reading Lionheart’s entry (Thanks J.F). I was backstage at a show, and decided to write something in the moment. There was an incentive to win a chance to design a Bespoke AF1, but in the moment, I thought that was mathematically impossible, so I wrote without the “Prize” in mind. Fast forward months later, and I receive a message on Twitter to call Marcus Troy ASAP. When I called, I received the biggest surprise of my life. He was taking me and one other winner to NYC with him to design the Marcus Troy Maverick Bespoke Air Force 1. ( Shout out to SneakGeekz)  4 days after the phone call I was in NYC. Crazy. All thanks to the opportunity Marcus Troy provided and the inspiration from the homey, Lionheart.

The Exhibit

Here on Derived Thread, our purpose is to show you glimpses of our everyday lives, for better or for worse. You’ve seen photos from all over the world, because our life paths have taken us to those places. We share stories, snapshots and portaits of ourselves, our friends, families and our community. As happy as we are to share these photos with you, the Team wanted to try and do something more. Something that could exist in the physical world.  On July 1st 2011, Derived Thread will be hosting an exhibit. A collection of photos from the site and some original artwork by Derived Thread Team members.
