20th Century Boys

BY

I have been getting back into japanese Manga books for a bit now. For my 25th birthday, a friend of mine shared his love for this Manga that he has been reading for a bit and got me a copy.

The book is called : 20th Century Boys

It is a science fiction-mystery manga created by Naoki Urasawa.

The book starts off in around 1969. We follow the lives of a few young kids (Kenji, Otcho, Yoshitsune and Maruo) that hang out in their secret hideout. They share manga , japanese porn and listen to the radio. One of the kids draws out a symbol that represents their bond and their friendship. In the midst of all that they imagine a scenario of series of events that occurs in the future. The book itself goes back and forth between different eras. These events and that symbol will come back and haunt them in the present time. But overall it is a very captivating book that keeps the readers wanting to know more…

Fuck’Em…since 1994

So for a couple of years now, I’ve been hooked on the products of a skateboard shop based in New York but that is now located everywhere from L.A to five stores all over Japan. Supreme has been the missing link between the street scene, taking its roots from skateboarding, and the art scene making collabos with artists, singers, models and everybody who made they’re own lane in this fuckep up world. I’ve been introduced to S by some sneakerheads who kept a place for that brand next to the Lo and seeing the whole culture behind it  you can understand why. So bla bla bla, when I saw a couple of months ago that Rizzoli was making a book about the history of S I had the credit card out and Amazon.com had a copy for me before you could say Shimmy Shimmy Ya…This is going next to the decks, panels, keychains, stickers, lockers, beanies,…

Reading Material

I’m leaving for Vietnam tonight for three weeks. After getting my malaria pills and some last minute things, I stopped by the shop and Angelo took me to chapters to help me pick out some books for my trip. Angelo is very knowledgeable and wise, and he assured me that these books will change my life. Stay tuned for a lot of pictures when I get back.

OISHINBO

BY

I often pass by Indigo Book Store after work to browse around for some books or just to kill some time. I’ve always been a fan of Manga and Graphic Novels, so I usually hang around that section or the art book area.

Anyways, I managed to stumble upon this Manga that looked interesting to me. It had this mature feel and yet childish in spirit. Oishinbo : À la carte is a manga about japanese food culture & the people that work in it.

It has that duality that I enjoy. A semi look into japan’s food industry & a more moral side of food versus life. I just went through IZAKAYA : PUB FOOD volume. It was a very fun read. The drawings of the food are very nicely detailed & well put out, but you also get that very funny manga touch also. I discovered some recipes as I read & learned about different cooking methods. It kinda makes you hungry thought, but it is funny, smart & tasteful. I need to get another volume started!
